UNBROKEN: REHABILITATION, RECOVERY AND HOPE FOR UKRAINIANS INJURED BY THE WAR
UNBROKEN – That’s what Ukrainians were on February 24, 2022. Unbroken they remain today. Because of the relentless war Russia is waging in Ukraine, many of them have lost everything. Home. Family. Childhood. And yet… they remained UNBROKEN.
UNBROKEN – is also the name of the National Rehabilitation Center located in Lviv, in western Ukraine. Lviv has transformed into a major humanitarian hub where people fleeing the war seek refuge. Since the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the First Medical Union of Lviv has provided medical assistance to more than five thousand Ukrainians affected by the hostilities. Every week, injured patients are brought to Lviv from frontline hospitals through evacuation trains and ambulances. The treatment of Ukrainians affected by the war is carried out by specialists from the UNBROKEN National Rehabilitation Center. This is a unique place where adults and children impacted by the war can receive proper and appropriate medical care. This includes reconstructive surgery, orthopedics, and robotic prosthetics. UNBROKEN manufactures and assembles prosthetics. Additionally, UNBROKEN provides physical, psychological, and psychosocial rehabilitation for injured soldiers and civilians. The project is being executed by the First Medical Union of Lviv and the Lviv City Council with the support of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine. The goal of UNBROKEN is to help Ukrainians to remain unbroken and ensure they can receive all necessary help here, in their own country, close to their families.
