UNBROKEN KIDS: REHABILITATION, HOPE AND A FUTURE FOR CHILDREN WHO ARE VICTIM OF WAR VIOLENCE
The recovery of children from war traumas, including amputations, shrapnel wounds, injuries from mine explosions, burns, limb loss, and psychological traumas, is long and challenging. UNBROKEN KIDS is the rehabilitation center for these children, located within the St. Nicholas Hospital in Lviv. It is a unique medical facility operated by the First Medical Association of Lviv, where children from birth until they reach adulthood receive appropriate medical and mental care. In the past year, more than 60,000 children from all over Ukraine have been helped at St. Nicholas Hospital. Now, UNBROKEN KIDS finds also hospitality in this hospital.
“We are now opening an intramural rehabilitation unit at St. Nicholas Hospital,” said Igor Koshivka, Deputy Director of Rehabilitation. “The difficulty in rescuing and rehabilitating children with war traumas is that they always have multiple injuries. For example, a broken arm, a gunshot or shrapnel wound, a severe burn. Rehabilitation of such children is a challenging process and also very tough for the children themselves.”

UNBROKEN KIDS takes care of children from cities and areas severely affected by the war, such as Brovary, Vinnytsia, Chaplyn, Dnipro, Bakhmut, and Kramatorsk. Due to the shortage of necessary medical equipment, UNBROKEN KIDS is often forced to seek treatment for these severely injured and traumatized children abroad. UNBROKEN KIDS aims to enable children to undergo rehabilitation in Ukraine, close to their families. That’s why the UNBROKEN FOUNDATION, in collaboration with the fundraising platform dobro.ua, has launched a fundraising campaign to purchase the world’s best equipment for the treatment and rehabilitation of Ukrainian children. “The modern equipment helps us bring the children back to their normal lives and work on their physical and mental recovery,” says Serhiy Khuda, a physiotherapist at UNBROKEN.
